A comprehensive crash course on all things pharmacy ownership

NCPA February 25, 2026

NCPA's Pharmacy Ownership Workshop is a crash course on everything you need to know to effectively run a pharmacy location, intended for current and future pharmacy owners. Attendees learn face-to-face from subject experts on the must-dos and not-to-dos of ownership.

Our speakers, many of whom are owners themselves, will break down the essential planks of starting up a pharmacy and managing it once it's up and running, including loan approvals, licensure agreements, creating a start-up checklist, writing a business plan, designing an effective store layout, and many other topics. The workshop will also give you chances to meet with vendors offering useful products and services, and a networking session to swap ideas with colleagues facing the same hurdles.

Attendees of our most recent workshop told us it was "great" and "amazing," and that it gave them the confidence to handle the more difficult steps on the road to ownership. Our next workshop will be held March 21-22 in Charlotte, N.C., at the Omni Charlotte Hotel. It doesn't matter if you work at a chain, hospital, managed care, mail-order, or independent pharmacy, or if you're a student (information on NCPA Foundation scholarships here) — if you're interested in owning, this workshop is for you!

The Pharmacy Ownership Workshop is sponsored by McKesson and in part by First Financial Bank and Pharmacists Mutual Companies. You can read the event agenda here, and speaker bios here.
