Today is World Radio Day. First established by UNESCO in 2011, it became one of several very specific topics recognized by the United Nations with its own day of awareness. While radio is increasingly less popular as a source of important information, it's still the most popular medium in the world and holds an essential role in informing and entertaining the public, no matter where it's broadcast.

The internet has largely supplanted traditional formats like TV and radio, of course, but there are still places out there where connectivity is rare or even nonexistent. That's where radio can really stand out, especially when places are far from major population centers or during emergency situations — just like community pharmacies!

You can learn more about World Radio Day and this year's theme (artificial intelligence) at the UN's website.
