Depending on your perspective, a blizzard can be a blast or a bummer. But community pharmacies need to keep supporting their patients' health, no matter the conditions. Some of our members have found creative ways to keep the doors open. Take Yorkville Pharmacy & Wellness in York, S.C., the only pharmacy in town that managed to keep serving patients in the frigid conditions despite the snowdrifts and frozen-over roads and walkways. How'd they do it? The answer might kindle your excitement or even spark some inspiration!
The parking lot out front of Yorkville was completely frozen over, and they needed to find a way to make it safe to walk on. With their burning desire to serve their patients, they decided to turn up the heat — literally. They went out and picked up a flame torch to melt the ice so they could get people in the door. It took three whole hours, but they managed to make the lot usable. Pretty slick.
You can watch the torch in action on Yorkville's Facebook page.
