In one of last week's Off-scripts, we talked about the first giant panda to arrive in the United States. Today, we're looking at another zoological first, when Colo the gorilla was born at the Columbus Zoo in 1956. Before her, all other gorillas had been captured in the wild; Colo was the first born in captivity.
Through the course of her life, Colo's lineage grew to the point that she was a great-great grandmother by the time she died at age 60, in 2017.
You can learn more about Colo in an article published earlier this year in Columbus Monthly.
