The Alabama Department of Insurance launched a new PBM compliance division thanks to the enactment earlier this year of S.B. 252, which, among its many provisions, expanded the department’s oversight and enforcement authority.
The division will coordinate state oversight efforts and address pharmacy complaints filed with the department. Under the law, all costs to the state associated with PBM regulation will be paid by the PBMs that operate in Alabama, which is considered an NCPA best practice.
