Pharmacy groups urge Mississippi governor to leverage pharmacists in new rural health programs

Last week, NCPA and other national pharmacy associations including the National Association of Chain Drug Stores, American Pharmacists Association, and the Independent Pharmacy Cooperative sent a joint letter to Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves urging him to elevate and involve pharmacists in his state’s new health transformation strategy.

The Rural Health Transformation Program was included in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act passed by Congress earlier this year and creates an opportunity to develop strategies for disease prevention and management, substance use disorders, and mental health care. The letter emphasizes the accessibility of pharmacies and the importance of payment for clinical services rendered, especially for providers in remote and underserved areas.
