Community pharmacists in Massachusetts advocate to expand point of care testing

NCPA May 27, 2025

NCPA sent a letter of support for H. 1091/S. 800, a bill that allows pharmacists and pharmacies to obtain specific Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments waivers to expand point-of-care testing. If this bill were to pass, pharmacists would be permitted to administer, read, and report the results of these tests and be able to treat pursuant to the results of the test.

This bill expands on a law passed in 2021 which recognized pharmacists as providers and authorized pharmacists to screen, test, and treat for COVID-19, flu, strep, and other public health threats defined by the state's Department of Health.
