William F. Buckley, Jr., is one of the country's leading conservative spokesmen. He founded National Review in 1955 and his column, "On the Right," which began in 1964, now appears in more than 300 newspapers. His Emmy-winning Firing Line first aired in 1969.

Fmr. Governor of Delaware

Pete du Pont served as Governor of Delaware for eight years beginning in 1977, where he balanced the state budget all eight years while reducing taxes. Gov. du Pont serves as policy chairman for the NCPA, and is a syndicated columnist and commentator. "Focus Point," his radio program for the Radio America Network, is currently broadcast on 150 stations across the nation.

James Mansour
Chairman, CEO America Foundation

James Mansour is Chairman of the CEO America Foundation, an advocate of school voucher programs. Mansour also serves as president and CEO of National Telecommunications, one of the nation's largest long distance telephone companies.

Brother Bob Smith
Principal, Messmer High School (Milwaukee, Wis.)

Brother Bob Smith is principal of Messmer High School, an independent Catholic high school. As principal, Smith has tripled the school's enrollment and increased its success rate. 70 percent of Messmer students are African-American. 92 percent of Messmer's students graduate and 85 percent go on to college.
Bob Chase
President, National Education Association

Bob Chase has been the NEA president since 1996, after serving as NEA vice president, executive committee member and Connecticut representative to the board of directors. Chase was also a member of the NEA Blue Ribbon Task Force on Educational Excellence, which outlined how public schools can meet the challenges of the 21st Century.

Ira Glasser
ACLU Executive Director

Ira Glasser has served as executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union since 1978. Prior to this he was a mathematician and a member of the faculty of Queens College and Sarah Lawrence College. Glasser's book, Visions of Liberty: The Bill of Rights for All Americans, commemorates the 200th Anniversary of the Bill of Rights.

William E. Curry, Jr.
Counselor to President Clinton

William E. Curry, Jr., has been counselor and domestic policy advisor to President Clinton since February, 1995. Curry has advocated such education proposals as computers in the classroom and community schools. He was a Connecticut state senator and was elected state comptroller in 1990.

Christopher Edley, Jr.
Harvard Law Professor

Professor Christopher Edley, Jr., has taught at Harvard since 1981. Edley served as a senior advisor on the economy for the Clinton-Gore Presidential Transition as well as Special Counsel to President Clinton on affirmative action issues.
