- Robert H. Dedman is Founder and Chairman of the Board of ClubCorp, Inc., which owns and operates approximately 260 clubs, resorts, public fee golf courses, and real estate developments worldwide. Total employees exceed 26,000.
- A native of Arkansas, Dedman has a BA, BS and LLB Degrees from The University of Texas at Austin, a Master of Laws Degree from Southern Methodist University and seven honorary doctorate degrees from other universities. Both SMU and The University of Texas at Austin have presented Distinguished Alumni Awards to him. Before founding ClubCorp in 1957, he practiced law in Dallas.
- Dedman College, the Dedman School of Law, and Dedman Center for Lifetime Sports at SMU are named for him, and ground has been broken for the Dedman Life Sciences Building. Sixteen graduates from North Dallas High School are Dedman Scholars at SMU and 800 National Merit Scholars at The University of Texas at Austin are named Dedman Merit Scholars because of scholarship funds contributed by him. The Dedman School of Hospitality at Florida State University, Dedman Memorial Hospital and Dedman Medical Center in Dallas are also named after him.
- He was inducted into the Texas Business Hall of Fame in 1987, received the Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Texas in 1976, the Humanitarian of the Year Award in Dallas in 1980, the Outstanding National Business Leader Award in 1985, the Marketer of the Year Award in Dallas in 1986, and the Number One Philanthropist Award from the Dallas Historical Society in 1997. In 1989, he received the Horatio Alger Award, and in 1999 was the first inductee into the Dallas Business Hall of Fame. He is a member of the Hospitality Industry Hall of Honor at the University of Houston, the McCombs School of Business Hall of Fame at The University of Texas, and the Arkansas Golf Hall of Fame. He also is a recipient of the Tom Landry Medal from California Lutheran University and the Flora Award from the Dallas Horticulture Center.
- He is currently a member and past chair of the Board of Trustees of SMU and is chair of the Board of Trustees of the Crystal Cathedral Ministries Foundation. He served for six years as a Director of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., as Chair of the Texas Board of Control, Purchasing and General Services Commission and twice as Chair of the Texas Department of Transportation.
- He and his wife Nancy have two children, Patty Dedman Dietz and Robert Dedman, Jr., both of whom have multiple degrees from The University of Texas and SMU.
