Allen B. West Named CEO of National Center for Policy Analysis
November 7, 2014
The Board of Directors of the National Center for Policy Analysis has named Allen B. West the new CEO of the NCPA. West, a retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel and former congressman (R-Fla.), replaces interim CEO and President Dennis McCuistion, who was named to the position in June. West comes to the NCPA with an impressive record of leadership and service to our country. He spent 22 years in the U.S. Army, during which time he served in Operations Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom as well as in Afghanistan. Over his more than two decades of military service, he received numerous commendations and honors for valor, including a Bronze Star. After retiring from the military, he ran and won a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2010, serving Florida's 22nd congressional district. Today, he heads the Allen West Foundation, a nonprofit that works to educate and inspire the next generation of leaders among minority and veteran communities.
West's appointment marks an exciting turn in the organization's 31-year history. Despite his political background, West stressed that sound policy is the key to getting the country on the right track. "It will be policy, not politics that secures a sound economic future for Americans — with growth, opportunity and returning the promise of the American dream for this generation and those to come," he said. To that end, West highlighted the benefits of the NCPA being outside the Beltway: "I believe one of the NCPA's strengths is that it is not headquartered in Washington, D.C. Working from the nation's center, I believe the NCPA's future is that of a leader in economic research as the most trusted policy analysis voice in America — philosophical, principled and policy proficient."
Under West's leadership, the NCPA will continue its efforts to promote free-market, limited government policies that resonate with individuals, not just policymakers, across the country. Said West, "We want to align ourselves with the fundamental principle of governance of America as a Constitutional Republic and promote the principles of limited government, fiscal responsibility, individual sovereignty and free market economy. We should focus not on party but rather effective and efficient governing policy. We want our message to reach the kitchen tables of the everyday American."
