Greg Scandlen is the founder and president of the Health Benefits
Group (HBG), an independent consulting and publishing firm formed in 1995
to assist organizations in setting up Medical Savings Accounts and other
patient-centered health care initiatives. HBG publishes the Patient Power
Report, a monthly newsletter, and HBG's Washington Weekly, a
faxed weekly memo.
Prior to forming HBG, he was Executive Director of the Council for Affordable
Health Insurance, an association of small to mid-sized health insurance
companies that are active in the small-group, individual and specialty lines
insurance markets. Mr. Scandlen organized CAHI in early 1992, and it quickly
became a preeminent voice for market-oriented health care reform, especially
Medical Savings Accounts.
Mr. Scandlen was also the publisher of the Health Benefits Letter,
a newsletter devoted to covering developments in health benefits reform
on both the state and federal levels. He began this newsletter in January
1991 after having worked in the Blue Cross Blue Shield system for 12 years
- most recently as Director of State Research in the Blue Cross Blue Shield
Association's Washington office.
