Czech President Václav Klaus to speak in Dallas

DALLAS (September 16, 2003) -- His Excellency Václav Klaus, President of the Czech Republic, is the featured speaker at a Distinguished Lecture Series dinner sponsored by the National Center for Policy Analysis (NCPA) and the Hatton W. Sumners Foundation in Dallas on September 22.

Texas is the fourth largest exporter to the Czech Republic. As a leader of countries representing the New Europe, President Klaus is at the forefront of U.S. relations with Europe and will guide the Czech Republic's role in international relations, including the Middle East. A news conference will be held prior to the awards dinner at 4:00 p.m. in the Sapphire Room at the Wyndham Anatole Hotel.

President Klaus also will receive the NCPA's 2003 Distinguished Leader Award for leading his country from socialism to free markets when he was Prime Minister. The award will be presented by NCPA Chairman Thomas Smith and Mary and Terry Kohler.

The NCPA will publish President Klaus' past speeches on free market principles that have guided the Czech Republic's economic transition from socialism to free market democracy. These speeches will include:

  • Basic principles of free market reforms in Eastern European economies

  • Lessons from the post-Communist era

  • Czech lessons for the "New Europe"

  • Select speeches and presidential addresses
