Mandates Increase Cost of Health Care by 30 Percent |
New Orleans, LA - While it's common knowledge that virtually all mandates increase the cost of health insurance, the magnitude of their effects has been the subject of debate and discussion. The National Center for Policy Analysis is out with a new report that finds, when added together, 12 of the most common mandates could increase the cost of health insurance by as much as 30 percent.
The analysis, prepared for the NCPA by the actuarial firm Milliman & Robertson looks at the following mandates.
Details of the study will be released during a special press conference at this week's annual meeting of the American Legislative Exchange Council in New Orleans. State representative Dan Van Vyven of Ohio will take part in the press conference. Mr. Van Vyven is former National Chairman of ALEC and is a State Farm Insurance representative. Also taking part will be State Senator Richard Roeding of Kentucky, an executive committee member of the ALEC Task Force on Health and Human Services; Kristen Becker, ALEC Task Force Director; and Dr. Merrill Matthews, vice president of domestic affairs for the NCPA.
