James Baker To Speak At NCPA's Sumners Lecture |
DALLAS (May 17, 2001) - What's the real story behind the Florida fiasco? What does President Bush's first 100 days portend for the next four years? Is Colin Powell faring well as Secretary of State? What's the future look like for the Mid-East peace process?
In his first interview since the election, former Secretary of State and Bush family confidant, James A. Baker, III, will answer these questions and more at the National Center for Policy Analysis's (NCPA) next Hatton W. Sumners Lecture Series luncheon. The luncheon will feature a free-flowing conversation between Secretary Baker and NCPA President John C. Goodman.
Before serving as chief legal counsel to President George W. Bush during the Florida recount, Baker served as Secretary of State under the first President Bush, Secretary of the Treasury under Ronald Reagan, and Under-Secretary of Commerce for Gerald Ford.

Secretary Baker is the recipient of many prestigious awards including the 1991 Presidential Medal of Freedom. He is the honorary chairman of the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy at Rice University and serves on the boards of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, Rice University, Princeton University, and a number of other nonprofit organizations.
