Briefing On Internet, Medical Records & Banking Privacy Issues

NCPA to Release Comprehensive Study on Privacy at Briefing

WASHINGTON, DC (April 26, 2001) -- The National Center for Policy Analysis (NCPA) will sponsor a briefing at the National Press Club this Friday to discuss what policies should be implemented to protect privacy in the United States. The briefing will discuss privacy protections as it relates to medical records, banking and financial services, and the Internet.

Some of the questions to be addressed at the briefing include:

  • What exactly are our legal rights to privacy?

  • How can privacy be protected in the information age?

  • Is Internet privacy really a problem or just a hassle?

  • Is there a value to financial institutions sharing information on a consumer?

  • Is there any such thing as medical privacy in today's world of managed care?

The briefing will also feature the release of several new reports including one of the most comprehensive studies on the issue to date: "Privacy in a Free Country: In Search of Reasonable Principles," by attorney Solveig Singleton, senior analyst at the Competitive Enterprise Institute.
