Study Finds Parental Substance Abuse A Factor In Child Abuse |
Substance abuse is a factor in seven out of 10 confirmed cases of child abuse or neglect, according to a two-year study presented by the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University. The researchers found that:
Some 700,000 abused and neglected children spend time in foster care each year and only one in every four children available for adoption is adopted. Eighty-one percent of addicted parents uses alcohol with drugs, according to the report.
