Employee Ownership Could Improve the U.S. Postal Service
|
U. S. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) wants to give the U.S. Postal Service
to its 750,000 employees in a bid to improve service.
- A bill he has introduced would transfer ownership through employee
stock options, and the shares could be sold by the employees after one
year.
- The legislation would also end the Postal Service's monopoly after
five years.
- Rohrabacher claims that under employee ownership, the USPS would have
an incentive to develop new products and provide a higher level of service.
- He thinks that without dramatic change, the Postal Service as it exists
today is headed for extinction.
