NCPA Pres/CEO Allen West Applauds Nomination
July 07, 2015
General Joseph Dunford’s long history of exemplary service and experience make him an excellent choice for the next Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said NCPA President/CEO Allen West ahead of Dunford’s confirmation hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee on Thursday, July 9th.
“General Joseph F. Dunford Jr. is the epitome of a warrior and combat leader, a Marine infantryman,” said West. “I personally know General Dunford, and there is no better leader to be the top uniformed member of our Armed Forces at this time.”
Prior to taking office as the 36th Commandant of the Marine Corps on October 17, 2014, Dunford served as the Commander, International Security Assistance Force and United States Forces - Afghanistan. He has held several Joint assignments, including service as the Chief of the Global and Multilateral Affairs Division (J5) and the Vice Director for Operations on the Joint Staff (J3).
General Dunford is a graduate of the U.S. Army Ranger School, Marine Corps Amphibious Warfare School, and the U.S. Army War College. He received a M.A. in Government from Georgetown University and a M.A. in International Relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
“If there is one general who will not bend to the whims of politics but focus on a ready and fiscally responsible military firmly capable of defeating the enemies of our Republic, it is General Dunford,” added West. “I would hope that the members of the Senate Armed Services Committee will do more listening during his confirmation hearing, than rhetorical grandstanding.”
