The End of Privacy: Personal Rights in the Serveillance Society

Charles Sykes, author of Profscam, A Nation of Victims and Dumbing Down Our Kids, takes aim at both private and public sector organizations that collect information on individuals.

Part 1 is "The Attack on Privacy"

Part 2 "The Surveillance Society" includes a chapter on medical privacy and one on employment privacy (titled "Big Brother at the Office"). Also included here is a valuable chapter on the legal foundation and debate over privacy rights (titled "Losing Ground: the Courts and Privacy).

Part 3, "The Snoop Wars," looks at the federal government's "war on privacy" and the battle over encryption.

Part 4, "The Exposure Culture" looks at the broader issue in American society of impersonal gossip. That is, usually gossip is about people we know. However, in recent years with television and news media exposure, gossip about the personal lives of people we don't know has undermined the sense of privacy and normalcy.
