  • NCPA Senior Fellow Devon Herrick told the July 4 edition of The New York Times that over-the-counter drugs are a boon to most patients, but care should be taken in purchasing them from unknown Web sites.
  • NCPA Senior Fellow Bruce Bartlett said in his syndicated column for the Washington Times, Florida Times-Union and New York Sun on June 30 that the minimum wage is the perfect liberal policy, but the poor wind up paying for it.
  • Bartlett told the June 28 edition of TheWashington Post that Sen. John Kerry’s campaign slogan should be: If you want higher taxes and more federal spending on health care, vote for John Kerry. His comments also appeared in the Bulletin’s Frontrunner.

  • NCPA Senior Policy Analyst Matt Moore told the June 24 edition of the Bradenton (FL) Herald that younger workers should focus on the year 2019, when Social Security starts paying more in benefits than it collects in taxes.
  • A June 23 Wall Street Journal article on Whole Food Market’s shift to a consumer-driven health plan highlighted the influence of Patient Power, a book by NCPA President John C. Goodman.
  • Moore said in a special column for the Washington Times on June 21 that a new report by the Congressional Budget Office about Social Security underscores the need for reform.
  • In a special Father’s Day column in the Washington Times, NCPA Policy Chairman Pete du Pont said too many fathers ignore the important role they play in their children’s lives.
  • Research on the supply of oil by NCPA E-Team Adjunct Scholar David Deming appeared in the June 20 edition of the Buffalo (NY) News.
  • NCPA Senior Fellow H. Sterling Burnett told the June 20 edition of the Tulsa World that the world has three trillion barrels of oil in reserve.
  • Bartlett wrote syndicated columns appearing in theWashington Times, the Florida Times-Union, the New York Sun and other media outlets, concerning the Joint Economic Committee of Congress, the late President Reagan’s economic policies, oil supply, presidential election topics, gasoline taxes, free trade, Sarbanes-Oxley legislation, outsourcing, Senator appointment, newly created jobs, tax policies, increasing interest rates, the media’s liberal bias, the war in Iraq and reducing the federal deficit.
  • The June 17 edition of Washington Times highlighted an NCPA study stating that serious misconduct by concealed-weapon permit holders is rare.
  • NCPA Senior Fellow William Conerly told the June 11 edition of the San Jose Mercury News that Fair Trade coffee is a trend, but the economic impact should be trivial. His remarks also appeared in the St. Paul (MN) Pioneer Press.
  • Conerly told The Oregonian ( Portland) on June 11 that Oregon’s job picture is brightening.
  • NCPA research on optimum tax rates appeared in the June 10 edition of the Australian Financial Review.
  • NCPA Policy Chairman Gov. Pete du Pont’s remarks that federalization doesn’t make streets safer appeared in the June 6 edition of the Wisconsin ( Madison) State Journal.
  • In a special column in the June 6 edition of the Los Angeles Times, Bartlett said that President Bush might think about the 2008 election in deciding how to conduct this year's election.
  • Goodman and Public Trustee of Social Security and Medicare and NCPA Senior Fellow Thomas R. Saving told the June 5 edition of the National Journal that the crisis in both entitlement programs begins this year.   • In a special column for the June edition of Commentary magazine, Bartlett explained the Bush tax cuts, their affect on the U.S. economy and political implications for the coming election.
  • Burnett told the May 28 edition of Dallas Morning News that the movie, "The Day After Tomorrow," might make for a good action movie, but it's bad science. His remarks also appeared on WHPT-AM ( Philadelphia).
  • Conerly told The Columbian ( Vancouver, WA) that the state of Washington's economic recovery mirrors the national economic recovery.
  • Conerly also told the Statesman-Journal ( Salem, OR) that Oregon's rank as 39th in the nation in per-capita taxes is not a good gauge of economic activity. His remarks also appeared in the Register-Guard ( Eugene, OR) and the Bend (OR) Bulletin.
  • Burnett told the May 23 edition of the Calgary Herald that rising fuel prices mean rising dependence on foreign oil. His remarks also appeared in the Duluth (MN) News Tribune.
  • In a special column for the May 23 edition of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Burnett said that drilling in ANWR would ease U.S. dependence on foreign oil.
  • Bartlett told The New York Times on May 22 that President Bush's economic credibility isn't eroding because of the lack of improvement in the economy.
  • Goodman told the San Antonio Express-News on May 22 that HSAs are gaining popularity among workers and employers.
  • Conerly also told the Eugene (OR) Register-Guard that Chinese trade is opening up on the West Coast.
  • Herrick told the May 21 edition of the San Diego Union-Tribune that the ranks of the uninsured have increased among affluent households but decreased among low-income households.
  • Herrick told the May edition of Managed Care that Sen. Kerry's health plan will be expensive. His remarks also appeared on Inter Press News Service.
  • In a special column for the June edition of Commentary magazine, Bartlett explained the Bush tax cuts, their affect on the U.S. economy and political implications for the coming election.
  • Goodman's testimony before the U.S. Senate's Special Committee on Aging that HSAs will lower costs and improve access to quality healthcare appeared in the May 20 edition of National Journal. His remarks also appeared on CBS Market Watch and in CongressDaily.

  • Goodman told the Christian Science Monitor on May 10 that HSAs will lower healthcare costs for employers and employees. His remarks also appeared in American Health Line.
  • NCPA E-Team research on the supply of oil was quoted in the May 10 edition of The Daily Review ( Hayward, CA).
  • Bartlett told the May 10 edition of TheWashington Post that White House policies need to focus on bolder ideas.

  • Bartlett told the Contra Costa (CA) Times on May 8 that it's getting tougher for President Bush's opponents to criticize him about employment.
  • Money magazine featured an interview with Goodman about HSAs in its May edition.
  • Herrick told ATM & Debit News that recent IRS rulings will allow HSAs to flourish. His remarks also appeared on WMUV-FM.
  • Burnett told the Associated Press on April 28 that a proposed bill in the Louisiana House to limit access to guns would make crime problems worse.
  • Bartlett told The New York Times on April 28 that the Bush Administration needs to focus on substantive policy initiatives for his reelection bid. His remarks also appeared in National Journal's Hotline and the International Herald Tribune.
  • Moore told the Daily Oklahoman ( Oklahoma City) on April 21 that Social Security and Medicare expenditures have created an alarming financial crunch.
  • Conerly told The Columbian ( Vancouver, WA) on April 18 that the Portland (OR) economy seems to be leading the Pacific Northwest out of recession.
  • Bartlett told Wall Street Week (PBS) on April 18 that while the tax system needs reform, the Bush tax cuts are working but a tax hike is likely in the near-term.
  • NCPA Research Associate Pam Villareal told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram in a special column on April 15 that urban sprawl is created by market forces and shouldn't be contained by "smart growth" policies.
  • Conerly told the San Jose Mercury News and Contra Costa (CA) Times that the Fair Trade movement is a feel-good program and its economic impact will be trivial.

  • Conerly told Small Times that nano-capital will have a direct impact on the West Coast economy.
  • In its April 11 edition, the Dallas Morning News featured Goodman's work at the NCPA in its "High Profile" section.
  • In a special column for the April 8 edition of the Washington Times, du Pont said although gasoline pump prices might be approaching an all-time high, the "real" price of gasoline is a bargain.
  • The NCPA/Fraser Institute publication, “Economic Freedom in North America,” was described in a special column in the April 8 edition of the Washington Times, which called economic freedom a powerful driver of growth and prosperity.
  • In a special column for Investor's Business Daily on April 7, Bartlett said all taxpayers will pay the price if tax rates on the rich are raised. Bartlett's comments also appeared in the Washington Times and New York Sun.
  • Bartlett told the April 7 edition of the Denver Post that a recent study by the General Accounting Office confirms that many corporations don't make money, especially young companies that often take years to show a profit.
  • Bartlett told USA Today's April 6 edition that the issue of outsourcing is overblown.
  • Research by the NCPA's E-Team about untapped oil reserves appeared in the April 5 edition of The Argus ( Fremont, CA) and the San Mateo County (CA) Times.

  • Burnett said the National Environmental Policy Act too often is used by environmentalists to halt critical logging projects in the April, 2004 edition of Environmental Health Perspectives, a journal published by the National Institutes of Environmental Health Sciences.
