  • NCPA President John C. Goodman told the "Freedom Fest" in Las Vegas, sponsored by the Young America's Foundation, that the unfunded liabilities of Social Security and Medicare will begin affecting the federal budget this year.
  • Goodman told the Philanthropy Roundtable that HSAs will reduce the number of uninsured at its May 13 meeting.
  • NCPA Senior Fellow H. Sterling Burnett presented a paper on renewable energy sources to the American Legislative Exchange Council's Task Force on Energy, the Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture in Austin (TX) on May 1.
  • NCPA Senior Fellow William Conerly testified before the Oregon Legislature on April 29, telling members that the state's revenue infrastructure is unstable.
  • Burnett testified before the Louisiana House Criminal Justice Committee on April 28.
  • NCPA Publications Director Joe Barnett and Research Associate Pam Villareal discussed a "Smart Growth" initiative for Arlington, Texas at the University of Texas at Arlington's School of Urban and Public Affairs on April 27.
  • Goodman addressed the Ohio Commission to Reform Medicaid on April 19 about consumer-driven healthcare.
  • NCPA Senior Fellow Devon Herrick was one of five speakers at an event organized by Rep. Michael Burgess (R-TX) titled "Small Business Access to Health Care Forum" on Monday, April 19 in Dallas.
  • NCPA Senior Fellow Celeste Colgan addressed the Leadership Program of the Rockies in Denver on April 9. Colgan discussed the importance of consumer driven healthcare and the promise of HSAs.
  • Burnett discussed "Markets and Morality" on April 9-10 at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.
  • Goodman spoke at a conference on "The Global Challenge and the Need for Reform" sponsored by the Atlas Foundation and Nassau Institute on April 3 in Nassau.
  • NCPA Senior Economist Barry Asmus spoke about the effect of global events on the U.S. economy in Phoenix, Toronto, Atlanta, Raleigh (NC), Las Vegas, San Diego and Dublin, Ireland. He spoke about his book, "The Best Is Yet to Come," in Tucson, Los Angeles, Albany (NY), Nassau ( Bahamas), Maui, Ogden, Utah, Kauai, Palm Springs (CA), Colorado Springs and San Antonio. Asmus also was a special guest speaker in Brandywine (DE).
