- NCPA Senior Fellow H. Sterling Burnett told United Press International on March 30 that it's improper for Sen. Kerry to propose to stop filling the petroleum reserve just to respond to an increase in gasoline prices.
- NCPA Senior Policy Analyst Matt Moore's recent brief analysis arguing against elimination of the Social Security payroll tax cap was the basis for an editorial in the March 29 edition of Investor's Business Daily. http://www.ncpa.org/pub/ba/ba470/
- NCPA Senior Fellow Bruce Bartlett said anti-outsourcing legislation recently passed in the U.S. Senate may cost more jobs than it saves in his syndicated column for March 29 in the Washington Times and New York Sun.

- NCPA President John C. Goodman told the March 27 edition of the Dallas Morning News that declining population is a huge problem for federal entitlement programs.
- Moore said in a special column for the Washington Times on March 24 that long term costs for Social Security and Medicare grew from $50 trillion last year to more than $70 trillion this year. Moore's comments also appeared in the National Journal's American Health Line.
- The NCPA Capitol Hill briefing on the annual Social Security and Medicare Trustees' Report was noted in the March 24 edition of Congress Daily.
- Goodman told the March 24 edition of Investor's Business Daily that there is no Social Security trust fund except for IOUs the government has written to itself.
- Bartlett told the March 23 edition of The Hill that President Bush's encouragement of the Ownership Society may not result in Social Security privatization legislation.
- Bartlett told the March 19 edition of the Chicago Tribune that interest rates are headed up and a deficit-reduction package will be required. His remarks also appeared in the Christian Science Monitor and the Chattanooga (TN) Times Free Press.
- NCPA Senior Fellow William Conerly told Small Times that nanotech centers will not have an appreciable effect on the West Coast economy this year.
- Bartlett told the Christian Science Monitor on March 19 that it appears a tax increase is inevitable regardless of the outcome of this year's presidential elections.
- NCPA Publications Editor Ken Artz told the March 14 edition of the Dallas Morning News that money won’t buy achievement in public schools.
- Hughes’s appearance also was the subject of a commentary in the March 14 edition of the Dallas Morning News.
- NCPA Senior Fellow Devon Herrick told the Business Press that there is a trend toward consolidation among non-profit and for-profit hospitals.
- Bartlett told the March 13 edition of the Washington Post that supporters of President Bush are worried about formulation of a basic and persuasive message about jobs.
- Herrick told the March 12 edition of Marketplace (PRI) that healthcare benefits present a hidden cost to workers.
- House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Bill Thomas’s remarks about reforming the U.S. healthcare system were noted in the March 11 edition of National Journal’s Congress Daily. Rep. Thomas made his remarks at a Capitol Hill briefing sponsored by the NCPA.
- Moore told the White House Bulletin on March 4 that Democratic Senators Schumer, Dorgan and Corzine’s call to oppose cuts in Social Security with no new funding will mean a certain tax increase.
- Bartlett wrote 27 syndicated columns appearing in TheWashington Times, the New York Sun and other publications, including Investor’s Business Daily,National Review and other publications across the United States, through Creators Syndicate. Topics this quarter included presidential election topics, U.S. economy, the transportation bill, increase in jobs and public spending, free and fair trade, outsourcing, costs of the Medicare reform legislation, prescription drug benefits, Bush’s 2004 budget, tax policies and capitalism.
- Former White House Communications Director and Advisor to President George W. Bush Karen Hughes’s remarks about the coming presidential campaign delivered at an NCPA/Sumners Distinguished Lecture Series luncheon on March 3 were featured in stories on the Associated Press newswire, in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, and on KDFW-TV Channel 4, WFAA-TV Channel 8, WB-TV Channel 33 and KRLD-AM (all Dallas-Fort Worth).
- Moore said in a special column for the March 1 edition of the Washington Times that Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan’s recent remarks about Social Security were necessary, but misinterpreted by the media and exploited by Democrats. Similar remarks by Moore about Social Security also appeared in the Newsday, Miami Herald and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette ( Little Rock).
- NCPA Senior Fellow William Conerly told the Associated Press on February 27 that he expects job growth to exceed 2 percent in Oregon this year.
- Bartlett told the February 26 edition of Marketplace (PRI) that he expects a tax increase after the 2004 election. His remarks also appeared in the Virginian-Pilot ( Norfolk).
- Herrick told United Press International on February 26 that healthcare tax credits will induce the uninsured to purchase health insurance.
- In a special column for the February 23 edition of the Washington Times Burnett said the debate over global warming needs to be based on science not science fiction.
- Herrick told The Business Press of California on February 23 that there is a trend toward consolidation among for-profit and nonprofit hospitals.
- Bartlett told the Buffalo News on February 22 that debate on outsourcing shouldn’t focus just on jobs, but also on keeping local businesses viable.
- Bartlett also told the February 17 edition of the Denver Post that while tax evasion may be a problem in Colorado, a tax hike may not be necessary.
- Bartlett told the February 15 edition of The New York Times that tax simplification might be a good idea, but it isn’t a simple task.
- Herrick told the February 15 edition of the Chicago Tribune that medical procedures like virtual colonoscopies should soon be covered by insurers.
- Bartlett told The Wall Street Journal on February 13 that Chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisers Gregory Mankiw should not apologize for his remarks that outsourcing was good for the U.S. economy. Bartlett’s remarks, that productivity and skill levels are far more important than wages in determining whether outsourcing is beneficial for the U.S. economy, appeared on CNBC’s Squawk Box, CNNfn’s Lou Dobbs Tonight and the Buffalo (NY) News.
- NCPA Senior Economist Barry Asmus’s remarks that Mississippi’s business growth will create near-term economic miracles appeared in the February 12 edition of the Biloxi Sun-Herald.
- Asmus told the Jackson (MS) Clarion-Ledger on February 9 that the Gulf Coast economy is prepared for economic growth.
- Goodman’s article, “Amerikanishe Erfahrungen mit Managed Care (American Experience with Managed Care),” appeared in Standardisierung in der Medizin: Qualitätssicherung oder Rationierung? (Standardizing in the Medical Industry: Quality Assurance or Rationing?), published by Schattauer GmbH in Germany.
- Goodman was the subject of a National Journal feature article, “The Father of HSAs,” in the February 6 edition. The article features an explanation of how HSAs will reduce healthcare costs and provide more choices in insurance options and control over healthcare dollars for employees and employers.
- Herrick told the Associated Press that on February 4 Senators Olympia Snowe (R-OR) and Ron Wyden (D-OR) are proposing changes to Medicare after recently providing key votes to overhaul the program.
- Bartlett said he’s concerned about Bush Administration spending in the February 3 edition of The New York Times. His comments also appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle and New Orleans Times-Picayune.
- Burnett said in a special column for the Washington Times on February 3 that wind power is no bargain.
- Goodman told the February 2 edition of National Underwriter that current tax law is biased against saving and investment for retirement.
- Goodman told United Press International on January 23 that the uninsured will be a long-term problem.
- Team NCPA’s educational efforts in Iowa, including the “Run and Hide” television ad urging Iowans to ask all candidates about their plans to save Social Security, appeared in the January 22 edition of National Journal.
- In a special column for Investor’s Business Daily on January 21, Bartlett said that trade protection measures and direct subsidies by the Bush Administration won’t help U.S. industrial policy. Bartlett’s remarks also appeared in his syndicated column in the Washington Times and New York Sun.
- Bartlett told the January 21 edition of The New York Times that the push by Congress to make President Bush’s tax cuts permanent may be only half-hearted, at best. His remarks also appeared in the International Herald Tribune.
- Herrick told the January 21 edition of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that Health Savings Accounts will improve access, reduce costs and increase the quality of healthcare.
- Asmus’s remarks to the Northeast Mississippi Annual Economic Conference that the economy should improve steadily over the next 10 years appeared in the January 19 edition of the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal.
- Herrick told the January 18 edition of the Alameda (CA) Times-Star that HSAs provide all consumers with a tax-free way to save for future medical needs.
- Bartlett told the January 15 edition of the Los Angeles Times that participants in key tax discussions told him that statements made by former Treasury Secretary Paul O’Neill about President Bush and other officials bear little resemblance to what was actually said. Bartlett’s remarks also appeared in his nationally syndicated column for January 14.
- Bartlett said that tax simplification may sound like a great idea, but probably won’t happen anytime soon, in a column for the New York Sun on January 14.
- The January 12 edition of Investor’s Business Daily featured a Q&A column explaining HSAs with Herrick.
- NCPA Senior Fellow Celeste Colgan told the Dallas Morning News on January 12 that women need to adopt a balanced investment approach to retirement.
- Bartlett told the January 10 edition of National Journal that former Clinton Administration Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin’s criticism of President Bush’s economic policies was well-timed to affect the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire Democratic primary.
- NCPA research on the effectiveness of contracting with the private sector for public services appeared in the January 2 edition of Investor’s Business Daily.
