The NCPA hosted a meeting behind closed doors with key Bush Administration and Hill staff on December 9. The goal: to determine what’s next for Medicare and needed reforms for the rest of the health care system.
His Excellency and President of the Czech Republic Václav Klaus, the NCPA’s Distinguished Leader for 2003, held a working meeting with Vice President Dick Cheney at the White House in late November. While in Washington, President Klaus also met with Sen. Richard Lugar (R-IN), chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, the Director-General of the International Monetary Fund, Federal Reserve Board Chairman Alan Greenspan, Nobel Prize winner in economics James Buchanan, and former Chilean Labor Minister Jose Pinero.
On October 30, the NCPA hosted a Washington, D.C., congressional briefing with Public Trustee of the Social Security and Medicare systems and NCPA Senior Fellow Dr. Thomas R. Saving and Dr. Scott Nystrom, senior policy advisor to the Senate Aging Committee. The NCPA briefed Hill staff and the media about the effects of the Medicare prescription drug bill on private insurance, access to drugs, drug prices and federal finances.
