  • Her Majesty Queen Noor of Jordan is featured speaker at an NCPA/Hatton W. Sumners Foundation Distinguished Lecture Series on January 15.

  • NCPA Senior Economist Barry Asmus toured 5 Romanian cities in November, addressing 25 audiences consisting of bankers, mayors, university professors, chambers of commerce members and students about free-market economics. His book, Apollo, was translated into Romanian and distributed during his tour. Asmus also spoke on the topic of "Financial and Banking Politics and Their Impact on the Development of Democracies" at the annual conference of the National Bank Institute in Bucharest.

  • The NCPA and the Hatton W. Sumners Foundation co-sponsored the annual Sumners Scholars Weekend on November 14-15 in Dallas, which was attended by approximately 80 students from more than 10 colleges and universities. Featured speakers included Dallas Morning News columnist Ruben Navarrette, Progressive Policy Institute economist Jeff Lemieux, and CATO Institute Vice President Ted Galen Carpenter.

  • Torie Clarke, former Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs, was featured speaker at the November 14th Sumners Distinguished Lecture series. Clarke was on duty at the Pentagon when the World Trade Center was attacked on September 11, 2001.

  • The NCPA and SMU’s Cary McGuire Center for Ethics and Public Responsibility co-sponsored a luncheon address on November 10 by acclaimed social policy critic Charles Murray, who introduced his new book, Human Accomplishment: The Pursuit of Excellence in the Arts and Sciences 800 B.C. to 1950.
