THIRD QUARTER, 2003
NCPA on the Internet

  • NCPA Policy Chairman Pete du Pont said in his nationally syndicated column for OpinionJournal.com on September 24 that a filibuster of the D.C. school choice bill by liberal Democratic Senators will only trap more public school children in under-performing schools. http://www.opinionjournal.com/columnists/pdupont/

  • NCPA Senior Fellow Dr. Devon Herrick told CNS.com on September 12 that shopping for drugs can routinely save as much as 50 percent on prescription drug bills. His comments also were carried in the Wall Street Journal and on the nationally syndicated radio program, BizSoup.

  • du Pont discussed the true nature of the financial crisis facing Social Security in his August 22 column for the Wall Street Journal’s OpinionJournal.com.

  • NCPA Government Affairs Director Michael Cannon told amednews.com for its July 21 edition that while Medical Savings Accounts are becoming more popular with American workers, the most positive development is that most workers who use them were previously uninsured.

  • du Pont said in his syndicated column for the Wall Street Journal’s OpinionJournal.com that the biggest challenge facing the Bush Administration isn’t global terrorism, but holding the line on federal spending.

  • The NCPA has launched a new Web site devoted to consumer-directed health insurance. The NCPA developed the site due to the surging popularity of consumer-directed health insurance plans and the need for health care professionals to understand how they work. Some experts predict they will account for as much as half the health insurance market within the next few years even though fewer than 1.5 million workers currently have access to consumer-directed plans. cdhc.npca.org

  • Our online journal, Daily Policy Digest at ncpa.org, is now available on weekends, presenting the best articles of the previous week. Subscribers to DPD in the third quarter totaled more than 7,300.

  • The NCPA's Team NCPA Web site at www.teamncpa.org, where our Team NCPA volunteers will go to monitor the news and spread the word about Social Security reform, has registered 3,200 volunteer team members since the outreach was launched in mid-2002.

  • Debate Central has been completely revamped for the 2003-2004 national debate topic: “Resolved: That the United States federal government should establish an ocean policy substantially increasing protection of marine natural resources.” During the fall debate season, the debate Web site experiences approximately one million hits per month.
