NCPA Policy Chairman Pete du Pont said in his monthly column for OpinionJournal.com on June 10 that the mediocrity of U.S. public education over the past 20 years can only be changed by market forces and school choice. He said that dumbing down education has had a devastating effect on students' lifetime opportunities. http://www.opinionjournal.com/columnists/pdupont/?id=110003445

Online NCPA polls show that more than 43 percent of respondents want to elevate Iran's threat to U.S. security. More than 69 percent of respondents disagree with means-tested Social Security. www.mysocialsecurity.org. And more than 74 percent of respondents believe the dividend cut's greatest relief is companies starting to pay dividends once again. More than 80 percent of respondents agreed that Medicare's structural problems should be reformed before adding a prescription drug benefit. http://www.ncpa.org. And 100 percent of our respondents believe higher education admissions officials should not favor male applicants in paralleling gender proportions in the general population. http://www.womenintheeconomy.org
The Texas Report Card, a study of the value added by Texas schools, is now available on an NCPA Web site. Results for all Texas sixth-grade classes are on the site, and seventh- and eighth-grade figures will be added later this year.
